Assam is in Northern India and the fertile tea estates are found on either side of the great Brahmaputra River.
The tea estates were planted from the early 1800s and today some of the bushes are in excess of 100 years old.
Through the selection of good ‘mother bushes’ cuttings can be used to create whole fields of similar tea. The mother bush might be selected for its high yield, for its taste or maybe for its resistance to specific pests but whatever the reason, the teas grown in this soil with this climate produce thick, malty liquors.
Our tea was plucked during the ‘second flush’ when the leaves are succulent with sap.
